The Right Policy to Advance Human Rights and Democracy in Iran

First of all allow me to thank The Rt Hon. David Jones for his kind invitation to address today’s meeting and for his brilliant initiative in creating a new all-party committee to expose and counter what is happening in Iran and the Middle East. Can I also thank the officers of the all-party committee Dr Matthew Offord MP, Steve McCabe MP, Mark Williams MP and Lord Clarke.
Prison wardens in Iran’s notorious Gohardasht (Rajai Shahr) Prison in Karaj, north-west of Tehran, raided a prison ward on Monday 30th May, according to reports from inside the prison. During the raid on the ward that houses ordinary prisoners, inmates were harassed and their belongings were damaged, according to a report by the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI).
Ken Blackwell, a former US ambassador at the UN Human Rights Commission and Mayor of Cincinnati, on Monday urged the Obama administration to change its Iran policy to reflect the wishes of the Iranian people. In an article in TownHall, Blackwell said "the regime we are dealing with today is the same violent, religiously extremist regime that drove so many of its citizens to flee the country or face death after the Iranian Revolution."
The Iranian Resistance has called on Austrian political parties, parliamentarians and defenders of human rights to cancel the upcoming visit by the Iranian regime's President Hassan Rouhani.
The National Council of Resistance of Iran said in a statement that it "considers the planned trip of Rouhani, President of the religious, terrorist dictatorship ruling Iran, to Austria against the highest interests of the Iranian people and the countries in the region."
Political prisoners being held in Gohardasht Prison in the city of Karaj issued a statement that condemns the interference and aggression shown by the clerical regime of Iran in Yemen.
