Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, President-elect of the National Council of Resistance of Iran, responds to the news of the joint statement between the Iranian Regime and the P5+1.
The clerical regime were finally compelled to take a step back, after 16 months of talks, following Operation Decisive Storm, the crippling impact of the sanctions and Iranian society’s explosive state and successive warnings from the United States Congress who warned that they will act and sanction the regime.
Rajavi called this retreat a step “toward drinking the chalice of nuclear poison” and stated that it was “prompted by fear and pressure”. She went on to state that it also is a blatant contradiction to what Ali Khamenei, the regime’s Supreme Leader, had personally announced a few weeks ago.
However, this will not make a difference, states Rajavi, because the lack of Ali Khamenei’s signature and his official approval will not block the regime’s path to nuclear weapons, and nor will it prevent their “intrinsic deception” that has been displayed time and time again.
She warns that the current talks are not going to keep the region or the world safe from the threat of nuclear proliferation. The only way forward is to compel the regime to abide by the United Nations Security Council resolutions.
The negotiations, that have been ongoing since 2002, reaffirm that the clerical regime only understands the “language of firmness and power”, recalls Rajavi. She adds that the leniency and unwarranted concessions granted by P5+1 is only worsening the situation and is further endangering the threat to not just the Iranian people, but also the region and rest of the world.
It is no secret that the religious fascism ruling Iran has heavily invested in obtaining nuclear weapons in order to assure its survival. Rajavi warns that the “search for an alternative to fundamentalism and the central banker of terrorism within this regime will get nowhere” and that the alternative is a democratic and non-nuclear Iran.
