The US Treasury Department announced sanctions on a host of Iranian companies and individuals on Friday. It sends a signal to Tehran to rein in its ballistic missile testing.
The people and entities involved in procuring technology and/or materials to support Iran’s ballistic missile program, as well as acting for, or on behalf of, or providing support to Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC)-Quds Force are the targets of the sanctions.
Last week, President Trump’s National Security Advisor, Michael Flynn, announced that there would be new financial sanctions imposed on individuals and entities following Iran’s test-firing of a ballistic missile. Flynn mentioned that the test-firing was a violation of UN resolutions and added that Iran has transgressed in many other ways – attacking vessels in international waters, funding terrorism around the Middle East and further, and so on.
As tensions rise between the USA and Iran, US Defence Secretary James Mattis has called the Iranian Regime the "biggest state sponsor of terrorism" in the world.
He told reporters in Japan: "We have seen their [Iran's] misconduct, their misbehaviour, from Lebanon and Syria to Bahrain and to Yemen and it's got to be addressed at some point."
Trump’s decisions, operation Decisive Storm to end mullahs’ dream
Those who fiercely oppose US President Donald Trump’s statements these days are the Iranian lobby, which had influenced the former Obama administration, and its allies affiliated to the lobby and terrorist projects across the world. The Iranian regime, its Revolutionary Guards (IRGC) and its paramilitary Basij militia have been targeting dissidents for decades. They suppress the population of Iran and arrest or torture people as they see necessary. In other words, people with a voice.
The founder of the Iranian regime, Ruhollah Khomeini, vowed to put all his energy into remaining in power and set about cracking down on the population. The IRGC were soon enlisted to train proxy groups that could spread terror under the name of Islam.
