In the aftermath of the horrific tragedy that struck Iran late on Sunday, the Iranian regime has all but abandoned the people that need help urgently. After the devastating earthquake hit the country, the Iranian government, bar a few sympathetic tweets, has failed to react appropriately. Instead, it is trying to cover up the reality of the devastation and is trying to suppress the demonstrations that are taking place in solidarity of all those affected.

Tensions between Iran and Saudi Arabia are reaching new heights. Saudi Arabia has now set its targets on Iran’s ally Hezbollah. Many say that military conflict is imminent.

The disputes between the two nations are deep-rooted and have been going on for years. It is based on political, economic and sectarian rivalry. Iran is resentful of Saudi Arabia’s role in the loss of shares in the energy market when sanctions were reimposed.

Huge Earthquake Kills Hundreds and More Missing in Iran

An earthquake has struck Iran and Iraq killing hundreds of people. The earthquake measured 7.3 and is the strongest to hit the region in several years. More than 4,500 people have been injured.

Many of the reports from Iran indicate that more than three hundred people have died there and the semi-official ISNA news agency is saying the number is 328. Reports from the Ministry of Health in the Kurdistan region say that eight people in Iraq have died – one in the Diyala province and seven in Kurdistan. The Iraqi health ministry also said that there have been 535 people injured.

On the aftermath of protest rallies and demonstrations which occurred during the commemoration of the ‘Cyrus the Great Day’ in Iran. The state-run ‘ Alef’ website published an article concerning the reaction of Iranian people to anti-Iranian statements and insults to Cyrus by Iranian regime’s officials titled “Today, Cyrus, tomorrow perhaps Hafez and Sa’adi (two of the greatest poets of Iran)”: “How long do we want to continue this fake policy and satisfy ourselves with the false hope that this year is over, let’s hope for next year,! What has been the result of these policies so far, except for causing more sensitivity and a worse reaction by the people?
