The July 9th demonstration in Paris is the world’s largest gathering of people who seek to promote democracy and freedom in Iran. Thousands of people are expected to attend the event, as was the case last year. Accordingly, many of the demonstrators are traveling from across the world to have their voices heard. Various world leaders, politicians and parliamentarians, will attend this rally, to support a free and just Iran.
This gathering is hosted and planned by the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), the parent coalition of the opposition People’s Mujahedeen Organization. This gathering is an annual event which has garnered the attention of myriads of people across the globe, who wish to see a free Iran. In previous years the gathering has garnered the support of hundreds of thousands of people, including leading figures in society, as numerous religious leaders, military officials, politicians and world leaders have attended. The success of the NCRI’s rallies has allow the gathering to grow every year.
The NCRI is the largest Iranian opposition organization in exile against the theocratic regime. Such events hold a significant importance for many Iranians who oppose the actions of the Islamic Republic.
Therefore, these events are often a medium for repressed and marginalized Iranians to voice their opinion on the future of Iran. Maryam Rajavi President-elect of the PMOI and NCRI who has played a vital role in promoting Iranian civil freedom. Various political figures around the world have praised Rajavi on her efforts to bring about a free Iran.
US Congressman, Brad Sherman is one who has commended Rajavi, for her “advocacy of democracy, human and women’s rights in Iran.”
Maryam Rajavi has also been a key figure in condemning the Iranian regime’s worsening human rights and its meddling in regional affairs causing turmoil and conflict in the region costing hundreds of thousands of innocent lives. She has protested Rouhani’s time in office, as it has been stained by the purge of dissidents.
Iran’s theocratic regime has executed 2,400 people in the past three years in Iran, the highest number of executions in the past 25 years. Iran currently has the highest number of executions per capita in the world.
Many of those executed or are in jails awaiting death are political dissidents. Their only crime is to call for a free Iran. Juvenile executions, as well as execution of religious minorities and ethnic minorities has also increased in Iran. The Baha’i community as well as the Muslim Sunnies have become a prime target of the theocratic regime. Persecution of minorities in Iran is on the rise extensively.
For many Iranians the July 9th rally in Paris is a platform for all those opposed to the regime to have their voices heard, and to fight for a free Iran.
