Iran alarmed by 22 million Telegram users inside the country

The head of the Iranian regime’s armed forces Major General Hassan Firouzabadi has expressed alarm about the exceeding use of online social networks in Iran.

At a meeting on December 26 on the issue of social networks in Iran, Firouzabadi said that there are 22 million people using the popular social media network Telegram in Iran.

Firouzabadi, a Major General of the regime’s Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps and the chairman of the Joint Command headquarters of the regime’s armed forces, acknowledged that Tehran’s repressive restrictions have not curbed Iranians’ use of the internet.

“Currently half of the population in Iran spend more than an hour of their time on the internet,” he added.
