A prominent European human rights group has released a statement urging the European Union and the United Nations to form an international tribunal to investigate the Iranian Regime’s role in the 1988 massacre which killed 30,000 political prisoners.

In an article by Adel al-Salmi in today’s Asharq Al-Awsat, he speaks to the effect of the recent release of an audio file of Hussein-Ali Montazeri’s speech to his fellow leaders in 1988.

In the piece, written for Politics Home, Mark Williams MP asserted that the UK must ‘stand with the Iranian regime’s victims in their quest for justice’.

In an August 29 article, the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI) writes that theUN Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in Iran, Ahmed Shaheed,who noted that ‘the overall situation has worsened’ with respect to human rights,”earlier this year, has today condemned Iran’s ‘illegal’ execution of 12 people on drug-related charges.

The Assembly of Experts, the highest institution in the mullahs’ Islamic Government of Iran, have released a statement which admits to the 1988 massacre of thousands of civilians, women and children among them.

Following the release of audiotapes which document a meeting that took place during the 1988 massacre in Iran, many are now calling on the UN to investigate the crimes and bring justice to the regime’s victims.
