Video Clip Shows Iraqi Military Move in to Camp Ashraf, Two Months before US Departure

Stop Fundamentalism – Video taken by Iranian Resistance sources and published on Youtube shows a great number of Iraqi troops move into Camp Ashraf in military vehicles and personnel carriers last night. (see below) The sirens made a lot of noise as the moving military column tends to intimidate any observer.

The Military column moved into the camp last night at 23:00 Baghdad time consisted of at least 30 military vehicles and 10 police cars, says a statement released by National Council of Resistance today.  They entered the Camp through the main entrance, created a lot of noise, and useing high beam lights maneuvered through the camp, says the statement.

Iraq foreign minister, Hoshyar Zebari, told news reporters yesterday that the residents of Camp Ashraf have until the end of the year to leave Iraq.  A deadline that the Iraqi government has been called on repeatedly by international bodies, right groups and personalities to cancel to allow the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees to resettle the residents to other countries. He was holding the press conference in Baghdad jointly with visiting Iranian foreign minister, Ali Akbar Salehi.

180 Members of the European Parliament from different political groups signed a statement calling for the postponement of the declared December 31 deadline by Baghdad to close Camp Ashraf, said Struan Stevenson yesterday to AFP through E-mail.

Camp Ashraf which is home to 3400 Iranian dissidents was the scene of a massacre last April when Iraqi forces assaulted the unarmed residents killing 36 men and women and injuring over 350.

The UNHCR announced last month that the residents of the camp have all requested for individual asylum and accordingly they are now ‘asylum seekers’ meaning certain international protections applies to them.

Hundreds of protesters gathered in Washington and Brussels earlier this month to demand that the camp’s closure be postponed to protect the 3,400 Iranian dissidents who have lived there for 30 years.

The Iranian Resistance warned the international community about the Iranian regime and government of Iraq preparing ground for another assault and massacre at the camp, and called on the United States and the European Union and the United Nations to take preventive measures to stop another bloodbath.
