The world watches closely as Armita Geravand, a 16-year-old high school student, battles for survival after a brutal altercation at a Tehran metro station on Sunday, October 1st. Her story, which went viral internationally, has shed light on the dark underbelly of the country’s enforcement of strict dress codes.

This quickly escalated into a heated verbal dispute. However, the confrontation took a dark turn as it is alleged that the Hijab enforcer physically assaulted the teenager. “The impact of the shove caused Armita to fall to the ground, leading to her losing consciousness,” one eyewitness shared. Alarmingly, the same Hijab enforcer was seen near the ambulance, heightening suspicions.

Friends who were present during the incident said, “when they managed to get her out of the subway car, they noticed that her head was bleeding.” Immediate medical assistance was administered by a nurse or doctor present at the station, following which Armita was rushed to the Air Force’s Fajr Hospital.

However, conflicting narratives have emerged. The government has stated that “Armita’s blood pressure dropped, causing her to faint and hit her head on an iron edge.” Yet, as some doctors have publicly noted, such severe head trauma is improbable from a mere fainting episode.

The incident has been shrouded in secrecy, with an unexpected and strong presence of “security forces and intelligence agents” at Fajr Hospital. Shockingly, even “Armita’s parents are being denied access to see her.” There are grave concerns regarding her current medical condition and the extent of control and manipulation the authorities might be exercising over it.

Adding to the tension, a reporter who tried to cover the incident was arrested upon reaching the hospital. Though released after a few hours, it underscores the lengths to which the authorities might go to suppress the story. In a similar vein, “security forces visited Armita’s high school, intimidating and warning students against giving any interviews or sharing any posts.”

The oppressive atmosphere and heavy-handedness of the government have only heightened global concerns. These actions not only “prevent the parents from discovering the truth about their daughter” but also raise chilling doubts about the state’s intentions to announce the true fate of Armita, if the worst should come to pass.
