Iranian Regime’s Global Terror Campaign Threatens European Stability

Nevertheless, the bullet that struck Mr. Vidal-Quadras in the face was a disgrace to the policy of appeasing Khamenei,” stated Iranian opposition President-elect Maryam Rajavi of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), at a European Parliament conference in Strasbourg on November 22. Her words underscore a growing concern about the Iranian regime’s tactics.

Spanish law enforcement and counter-terrorism units are intensively investigating the assassination attempt on Mr. Vidal-Quadras, a European politician known for advocating regime change in Iran. A substantial body of evidence, including statistical data, discernible patterns, historical performance trends, and connections with criminal organizations, points towards Tehran’s involvement. This evidence challenges the narrative of internal political strife, suggesting instead a politically motivated act orchestrated by Tehran.

The investigation transcends the identification of the assailant to the underlying motive. This shifts the narrative from a mere criminal act to one of political significance, raising questions about the response of authorities. The historical precedent suggests that Prof. Vidal-Quadras’ assassination could be the beginning of Iran’s global campaign targeting Western statesmen.

The Iranian regime’s history of kidnapping, murder, and forced disappearances over the last four decades demonstrates a pattern of impunity. Through economic incentives and coercive tactics, Tehran has ensured the compliance of countries harboring its perpetrators, thus evading accountability. This lack of international action has emboldened the regime.

In 2018, an official Iranian diplomat was involved in a plot to bomb the Free Iran World Summit in France, targeting hundreds of international leaders, including Mrs. Rajavi and Prof. Vidal-Quadras. Despite the arrest and sentencing of Asadollah Assadi, his subsequent release in 2023 by the Belgian government indicates the continuing effectiveness of Tehran’s coercion policy.

Beyond targeting individuals, Tehran’s tactics have broader implications. It has disrupted political processes and stifled socio-economic progress in the Middle East through militias and operates the world’s largest state-operated narcotic network. Despite numerous United Nations resolutions, Tehran advances its ballistic missile and drone programs and possesses near-weapon-grade nuclear material, challenging international treaties under the International Atomic Energy Agency.

Since the 1980s, the Iranian Resistance has warned the world about the regime’s dangerous nature. Despite this, the international community has allowed the regime to extend its influence, often repressing the resistance movement in return.

The recent assassination attempt in Madrid should serve as a wake-up call. If the world fails to connect the dots and take decisive action, more dire consequences are likely to follow, threatening global stability and the rule of law.
