In a recent interview with Stuttgarter Zeitung, Dr. Alejo Vidal-Quadras, former Vice President of the European Parliament, issued a compelling plea for Germany to reevaluate its diplomatic approach towards the clerical regime in Iran.

Dr. Vidal-Quadras, who survived an assassination attempt last November believed to be orchestrated by Tehran, emphasized the critical need for a tougher stance against the regime.

During his visit to Germany, Dr. Vidal-Quadras engaged with members of the Bundestag, highlighting the gravity of the situation and urging for a decisive shift in approach. He criticized the longstanding policy of appeasement towards Iran, pointing out the regime’s human rights violations, nuclear ambitions, and aggressive foreign policies.

The interview underscored Western diplomacy’s failure to address Tehran’s exploitation of perceived weaknesses. Dr. Vidal-Quadras proposed a multifaceted strategy involving heightened international pressure and robust support for the Iranian Resistance, particularly the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI) led by Mrs. Maryam Rajavi. He advocated for the designation of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as a terrorist organization across Europe to curtail their activities.

Despite urgent calls for action, German authorities have been hesitant to embrace tougher measures. Recent rejections of proposals in the Bundestag aimed at expanding EU sanctions on Iran and listing the IRGC serve as evidence of inertia in the face of growing threats.

Dr. Vidal-Quadras's impassioned plea serves as a clarion call for Germany and its allies to confront the belligerence of the Tehran regime head-on.
