UK Parliamentary Conference Calls for Action Against Iranian Regime

At a conference in the UK Parliament, David Jones, Deputy Chairman of the European Research Group and co-president of the British Committee for Iran Freedom, made a compelling case against the Iranian regime's activities in the UK and the Middle East.

Jones urged the UK government to label the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as a terrorist organization and to support the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI) in its quest for a democratic republic.

During his speech, Jones highlighted the critical situation in the Middle East, especially Iran’s role. “We are now standing at a crucial moment in the history of the Middle East,” he stated, referencing recent conflicts in the region and ongoing popular uprisings in Iran against the regime.

Jones criticized the Iranian regime’s efforts to “export its crisis of survival” through domestic repression and warmongering. He argued that these actions are signs of the regime’s weakness, not strength. “The regime is trying to export its crisis of survival at home in the face of growing popular dissent and demands for genuine democratic change,” he explained.

The conference, attended by a cross-party panel of experts, also featured discussions on the threats posed by the Iranian regime and the future of Iran and the broader region. Jones pointed out the regime’s tactics, such as using conflicts to create divisions within Western democracies and facilitating terrorist attacks.

Jones also addressed the role of the NCRI, led by Maryam Rajavi, in leading the opposition against the regime. He praised Rajavi’s leadership and her Ten-Point Plan for Iran’s future, emphasizing the need for Western support. “Mrs. Rajavi has put forward a Ten-Point Plan for Iran’s future that captures and sets out this democratic aspiration of the Iranian people,” he said.

The Deputy Chairman stressed the significance of the geopolitical battle between the Iranian regime and its people. He called for the UK and its allies to recognize and support the NCRI, arguing that the West’s security and economic interests are aligned with the success of the Iranian people in this struggle.

Jones concluded his speech with a powerful message of hope and a call for non-military engagement to support the Iranian people’s pursuit of freedom and democracy. “A free Iran has never been more within reach than it is today,” he affirmed, signaling a turning point in the UK’s approach to the Iranian regime.

The conference marks a critical moment in UK foreign policy, with implications for the future of Iran and the stability of the Middle East. The UK government’s response to these recommendations will be closely watched by international observers and the Iranian diaspora.
