Why is Iran’s Regime Revisiting the “MEK Child Soldier” Allegations?

In recent months, a new narrative has emerged on Persian-language social media and major news outlets concerning child soldiers within the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK).
In recent months, a new narrative has emerged on Persian-language social media and major news outlets concerning child soldiers within the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK).

At first glance, it appears that independent journalists or amateur filmmakers have spontaneously decided to investigate this extraordinary subject. However, a closer examination reveals that the primary audience and beneficiaries of this coordinated campaign are within Iran itself, not Europe.

The campaign first appeared in Germany’s Die Zeit magazine, followed by a documentary screening in Sweden, and then an article in Le Monde on June 8. The narrative claims that the MEK, the only coherent and unified organization fighting against the clerical dictatorship for the past 45 years, is worse than the regime itself.

Iranian state media systematically translated and highlighted this content, attempting to dissuade young Iranians from opposing the regime by suggesting, “Don’t risk your lives in vain. Those who took this path before you are worse than we are.”

One of the individuals depicted as a former “child soldier” in the documentary has debunked the regime’s lies. Now in his 40s, he is the moderator of a political platform. According to the Iranian regime, he should have been executed like thousands of other under-age political prisoners.

Instead of succumbing to the slander, he presents documented evidence showing that the motives behind this coordinated effort are far from being aligned with human rights and the love for mankind.

His program, broadcast on Simaye Azadi, counters the regime’s propaganda by providing a platform for truth and resistance. This English version of the program can be viewed below, shedding light on the true intentions behind the campaign and highlighting the ongoing struggle for justice within Iran.
