In July 1988, the National Liberation Army (NLA) of Iran launched a monumental campaign known as Operation Eternal Light. This daring operation aimed to overthrow the Iranian regime, marking a significant chapter in Iran’s struggle for freedom. Over 1,300 brave freedom fighters sacrificed their lives during this operation, setting an enduring example of resistance.
Thirty-six years later, the PMOI Resistance Units commemorated this historic event across various cities in Iran. They honored the martyrs’ memory and renewed their dedication to completing their mission, ensuring the ideals of freedom remain vibrant in the hearts of the Iranian people.
Resistance units distributed leaflets in several cities, underlining their commitment to the martyrs’ cause. In Tehran, leaflets featuring Iranian Resistance leader Massoud Rajavi declared, “Operation Eternal Light shook the foundations of the Velayat-e Faqih regime,” and affirmed, “Long live the National Liberation Army. We shall return.” Other leaflets showcased Maryam Rajavi, president-elect of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), with the message, “Operation Eternal Light is an inspiration for resistance, freedom, and equality.”

These activities were replicated in numerous other cities, including Karaj, Sanandaj, Semnan, Bandar Abbas, Mashhad, Khorramabad, Ramsar, Qazvin, Isfahan, and Kermanshah. The widespread presence of these Resistance Units highlights the resilience and deep-rooted strength of the opposition across Iran, despite the regime’s efforts to suppress them.
In Tehran, a resistance member remarked, “The resilience and determination of the Iranian youth are unstoppable. We are inspired by the sacrifices of our martyrs, and we will continue their mission until Iran is free.” Another activist in Mashhad echoed this sentiment, saying, “Operation Eternal Light remains a beacon of hope and resistance. We will keep fighting until we achieve the freedom and equality that our martyrs dreamed of.”

Resistance Units also projected images of Iranian Resistance leaders in public places, commemorating Operation Eternal Light in various cities. In Zahedan, the capital of Sistan and Baluchestan province, these units launched a fresh wave of activities against the regime. They displayed banners with slogans like “From Zahedan to Tehran, the time for revolution and justice has come” and “The blood of the uprising martyrs and the martyrs of the 1988 massacre boils,” emphasizing the unyielding determination of the youth to continue their struggle.
These banners carried potent messages such as “Sworn by the blood of comrades, we will remain steadfast until the end” and “The voice of the Iranian people is to punish the murderers.” The slogans also included “Down with the oppressor, be it the shah or the mullahs,” highlighting a universal rejection of all forms of dictatorship. The call for “Women, Resistance, Freedom” underscored the crucial role of women in shaping Iran’s future.

Other slogans denounced the regime’s oppression, advocating for a democratic republic with messages like “No to dictatorship, yes to a democratic republic” and “The monarchy and the mullahs’ regime, a century of crime.” These expressions of defiance and hope underscore the unwavering spirit of the Iranian Resistance as they honor their martyrs and persist in their quest for freedom and justice.
