Maryam Rajavi: a Profile of Principles

Ahead of the mass rally, Free Iran, on July 9 in Le Bourget, Paris, writing for Iran Focus, National Council of Resistance of Iran’s (NCRI) Representative for International Organizations, Elaheh Azimfar, profiles Mrs Maryam Rajavi, President-elect of the Iranian opposition.

Hundreds of distinguished speakers, from across the globe, and the many thousands expected at the rally will show their support for Maryam Rajavi.

Maryam Rajavi has built an impressive coalition, Ms Azimfar writes, of international decision-makers and “Iranians of all walks of life,” each dedicated to the struggle to rid Iran of dictatorship.

Ms Azimfar begins her sketch of Maryam Rajavi with her religious principles: “Maryam Rajavi is a devout Muslim woman,” and one who “espouses a tolerant and democratic interpretation of Islam.”

Having been at the forefront of the struggle against Tehran’s fundamentalist regime for the past three decades, Maryam Rajavi has long identified the theocracy as the “most dangerous threat” to global peace. And it is Maryam Rajavi’s ten-point plan, Ms Azimfar writes, which “offers a democratic alternative to the ongoing savagery of the ruling regime in Iran.”

Ms Azimfar describes Maryam Rajavi’s principal political stands: abolition of the death penalty; separation of Mosque and State; and a non-nuclear Iran that lives in peaceful coexistence with its neighbors.

Maryam Rajavi believes that “women’s equality is essential to democratic progress.” It is a belief that Maryam Rajavi has enacted in the Resistance, to which, of course, Ms Azimfar can bear witness. Maryam Rajavi’s motto is “we can and we must;” approaching any task with realism, energy and time, “human beings can decide their own fate and break through any impasse.”

In spite of the many obstacles posed by a violent regime, the coalition of forces which Maryam Rajavi leads stands poised on the brink of victory, Ms Azimfar declares.
