Israel air strike targets Gaza car, militants escape

GAZA CITY, June 29, 2006 (AFP) – The Israeli military carried out an air strike on a car in Gaza City on Thursday, witnesses and the army said.

Two Palestinian militants from the armed wing of the ultra-radical Islamic Jihad faction escaped from the vehicle which sustained some damage, witnesses said. Medical sources said no one had been admitted to hospital with injuries after the raid.

"I can confirm we attacked a car in the city of Gaza," an army spokesman told AFP, providing no further details.

Palestinian sources named one of the escaped militants from Jihad’s Al-Quds Brigades as Kareem al-Dahdouh.

Israel has carried out a series of botched air strikes over Gaza during the latest upsurge in Middle East violence in which militant targets have escaped and Palestinian civilians have been killed.
