To mark the occasion of International Workers’ Day, the People’s Mojahedin Organization (PMOI) of Iran issued an April statement, calling for protest and assembly against the mullah’s plunder of wages, unemployment and wrongful terminations.
In the city of Sanadaj (western Iran), a group of students from Kurdistan University, supporters of PMOI, issued a statement on April 23 in support of this call. They wrote: “We, the students of Kurdistan University, in solidarity with workers, teachers, nurses and other oppressed echelons, commemorate International Workers’ Day and support the call by the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran in support of the rights of workers on this day.
“We call on all freedom-loving and hardworking classes, who are deprived of the most basic labor rights and any job security or social insurance, to show no mercy to the feeble supreme leader and to rise to attain their usurped rights.”
Likewise, a group of farmers living on the shores of Zayanderoud River in Esfahan (central Iran), supporters of PMOI, issued a statement on April 23. They commemorated the memory of Gholamreza Khosravi, a PMOI worker executed two years ago, noting: “We call on all echelons of the homeland, especially the workers and teachers, to participate in protest gatherings on International Workers’ Day and to cry out for justice to gain their rights.”
Combative youth of western Tehran districts issued a statement on April 25 in support of the PMOI call. They declared: “This year, more than ever, more resolute than In previous years, we should commemorate International Workers’ Day. We witness protests by workers, merchants, teachers and other echelons of the society on a daily basis, people who have risen up to attain their rights. Thus, by supporting the call of the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran we rise together to richly uphold International Workers’ Day.”
Additionally, a group of students from University of Firdausi in Mashhad issued a statement while commemorating May 1st.They wrote: “We honorLabor Day at a time when the rights of workers and toilers of our homeland has been trampled upon by a bunch of thieves and plunderers,
“We honor Labor Day at a time when workers are thrown into prison for the least protest and oppressed,
“We honor Labor Day at a time when the number of unemployed in the country is estimated at 7 million,
“However, your daily resistance and cries can be heard in this land,
“Hail to you and your resolve in your search for justice and refusing to give up in the face of tyranny imposed on you by the ruling plunderers.”
