Baluch citizens defy repression and commemorate massacre with protests

The protestors’ resilience was evident from the slogans that resonated across these cities.

On this day marking the tragic events of the September 30, massacre, the valiant Baluch residents from various cities, including Zahedan, Rask, Khash, Sooran, and Taftan, showcased immense courage by taking to the streets after their Friday prayers. This show of resistance was met with violent reprisals, as gunshots echoed and tear gas shrouded the streets.

The protestors’ resilience was evident from the slogans that resonated across these cities. Calls for justice such as “Death to Khamenei,” “Death to the oppressor, be it the Shah or the Leader,” and “I will avenge my brother’s blood” underscored the deep-seated resentment against the religious authoritarian regime of Iran.

The city of Zahedan saw particularly intense clashes. Agents acting on behalf of Khamenei’s regime targeted demonstrators in various districts, resulting in at least 19 casualties, including children. One of the most audacious acts by the regime’s agents was the release of tear gas inside Makki Mosque. However, the undeterred citizens of Zahedan counteracted with powerful chants such as “Fear not, we stand united” and succeeded in making the oppressors retreat.

Simultaneously, cities like Khash, Rask, Sooran, and Taftan echoed similar chants, with protesters fearlessly standing up to the overwhelming force of repressive state agents.

Predicting such resistance, the Iranian regime had already fortified its positions in the aforementioned cities by ushering in forces from adjacent provinces. By Friday, these areas resembled militarized zones, with extensive checkpoints, restriction on movement, and invasive drone surveillance, particularly during the religious gatherings.

Compounding the oppressive environment was the disruption of internet services in several regions, most notably in Zahedan, crippling communication and obstructing the flow of real-time information.

Adding to the environment of intimidation, the FARAJA News Headquarters and the FARAJA Intelligence Organization resorted to threatening the general populace. Numerous residents in Sistan and Baluchestan received ominous warnings on their mobile phones against participation in the protests, threatening arrests.

The events of today not only mark the remembrance of a dark day in the recent history of the Baluch people but also underline their indomitable spirit and unyielding quest for justice. Their resistance against religious tyranny and the sheer force of a repressive regime is a testament to their enduring spirit and the global call for human rights and dignity.
