Sharifa, also known as Sheraft Zarrini, is a staunch advocate against the death penalty in Iran, gaining recognition for her relentless pursuit of justice following her son’s execution.

Ramin Hossein Panahi, aged 23, faced brutal torture in IRGC Intelligence and Ministry of Intelligence detention centers after his arrest in June 2017. Following an unjust trial on September 8, 2018, he was executed alongside Zanyar and Loqman Moradi, all of whom were on a hunger strike. Two days later, Panahi’s mother was shown his lifeless body.

On Thursday night, February 1, 2024, Sharifa, her daughter, and son-in-law were arrested by agents from the Ministry of Intelligence on their way to Kamyaran for the second time. This was intended to meet the mother of Pejman Fatehi, one of the recently executed Kurdish political prisoners. The intelligence forces issued a verbal threat, restricting Sharifa’s movement, warning her not to leave her residence in Qoruchai, Dehgolan, Kurdistan, or face arrest and imprisonment.

Despite facing adversity, Sharifa remains resolute. Insulted by an intelligence agent, she bravely responded, "I died a long time ago.

The body in front of you is not me; it carries Ramin’s soul. Go ahead and hang me once more.” This comes after she had already been detained twice recently, hindering her support for the families of the executed young men.

Pejman Fatehi, a 28-year-old married man with a young child, was among the four executed on January 29, 2024, facing charges of espionage. The executions took place in Qezal Hesar prison in Karaj, adding to the growing concerns surrounding human rights in Iran. The arrest of Daya Sharifa further underscores the challenges faced by those advocating for justice and human rights in the region.
