In a significant gathering at the European Parliament in Strasbourg, Gianna Gancia, a distinguished Member of the European Parliament (MEP) from Italy, convened a roundtable discussion focused on the pressing issues facing Iran and the enduring struggle of its people for a democratic republic.

This event, marked by the participation of representatives from various Iranian medical and specialist associations based in Italy, brought to light the critical challenges and aspirations of the Iranian Resistance.

The roundtable took a deep dive into the recent actions of the clerical regime in Iran, notably its attempt to stage a formal trial against 104 members of the Iranian Resistance and the entire People’s Mojahedin of Iran (PMOI/MEK). The participants unanimously condemned the escalating repression within Iran, spotlighting the urgent need for global solidarity with Iran’s Resistance in its fight against terrorism and warmongering.

MEP Gancia articulated her grave concerns over the intensifying suppressive measures by the authoritarian regime against the Iranian populace, especially following the 2022 uprising. She criticized the regime’s farcical trial of 104 PMOI members in Tehran, denouncing it as a clear testament to the regime’s longstanding history of brutality against dissent. Gancia called on Europe to take decisive action in support of the Iranian people’s pursuit of freedom.

A notable aspect of the discussion was the commendation of the prominent role of women in the Iranian Resistance. Gancia praised Iranian opposition President-elect Maryam Rajavi of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI) for her leadership and expressed her support for Iranian women and all individuals opposing the tyrannical regime.

Dr. Khosrow Nikzat, representing the Iranian Democratic Physicians and Pharmacists Association in Italy, and other speakers criticized the regime’s defamation of the PMOI as terrorists, highlighting the regime’s fear of women’s leadership and the significant social support for the PMOI. The recent trial was dismissed as a mere theatrical display by Esmail Mohaddes, emphasizing the lack of judicial independence in Iran.

Karamat Jehandarpoor exposed the regime’s schemes to quash internal dissent and launch terrorist attacks against the PMOI, alongside pressuring European countries to curtail their activities.

The roundtable at the European Parliament not only served as a critical platform for discussing the plight of the Iranian people but also reinforced the international commitment to support their struggle for freedom and democracy. As the event concluded, participants reaffirmed their solidarity with the Iranian Resistance, echoing a collective call for global action to address the challenges faced by those fighting for a democratic Iran.
