On Wednesday, January 30, a significant conference was held at the Victor Hugo Hall of the National Assembly of France, focusing on the Iranian regime's policies of internal repression and aggressive actions abroad.

The session, presided over by Mrs. Cécile Rilhac, leader of the Parliamentary Committee for Democratic Iran, saw discussions between Iranian opposition President-elect Maryam Rajavi of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), French politicians, and international figures on the necessity of confronting the Iranian regime’s provocative actions and supporting the Iranian populace in their quest for freedom.

The conference highlighted the National Assembly’s 2023 declaration, which garnered notable support from 295 French representatives, advocating for the designation of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as a principal terrorist entity due to its destabilizing role in the Middle East. Mrs. Rilhac, in her address, condemned the IRGC’s destructive influence and called for global recognition of its terrorist activities.

Prominent French legislator Patrick Hetzel underscored the symbolic importance of French support for the Iranian Resistance, emphasizing the shared aspiration for a democratic Iran. The session also featured remarks from former Belgium Prime Minister Guy Verhofstadt, who criticized the appeasement policy towards Iran and highlighted the legitimacy of the Iranian people’s resistance against the regime, suggesting Mrs. Rajavi’s Ten-Point Plan as a foundational framework for a democratic future in Iran.

André Chassagne, leading the Democratic and Republican Left group in the National Assembly, articulated the necessity of democracy in Iran for global security and supported the Iranian people’s rights to protest and resist. Drawing parallels with France’s own revolutionary history, he likened the Iranian Resistance’s fight to the historical struggles for freedom and democracy.

The event also saw contributions from Philippe Gosselin and Jean-Pierre Brard, who emphasized the international community’s role in supporting Iranian aspirations for freedom and highlighted the regime’s threats to its opponents, including assassination attempts abroad.

Jean-François Legaret, echoing the sentiment of support for the Iranian Resistance, described the NCRI’s Ten-Point Plan as the only democratic alternative to the current regime, underscoring the existential threat it poses to the mullahs’ rule in Iran.

She outlined a policy framework towards Iran, including the designation of the IRGC as a terrorist entity, the activation of the UN Security Council’s “snapback” mechanism, and recognizing the Iranian struggle against religious dictatorship.

Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, in her speech, emphasized the regime's role in perpetuating conflict in the Middle East and the importance of international solidarity with the Iranian people's movement for freedom.
