On the occasion of the World Day Against Execution, French parliamentarians, members of the Iranian Resistance, human rights activists, and politicians convened at the French National Assembly on Wednesday, October 11.

The assembly aimed to shed light on the escalating human rights violations under Iran’s theocratic dictatorship.

Iranian opposition President-elect Maryam Rajavi of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), strongly criticized the Iranian leadership in her remarks. She accused them of using international conflicts to divert attention from domestic uprisings. Citing historical events, Rajavi underscored the regime’s attempts to suppress dissent, including the persecution of the PMOI/MEK members. Additionally, she highlighted the regime’s deep-rooted espionage activities in the West, aiming to influence foreign governments to support its controversial policies.

André Chassaigne, leader of the Communist bloc in the French Parliament, praised the MEK Resistance Units’ resilience against the regime’s oppressive measures. He highlighted the political nature of the death penalty in Iran, emphasizing its use as a tool for widespread suppression.

Ms. Marietje Schaake, a National Assembly member from the Socialist Party, echoed the call for a more aggressive stance on the issue of executions, pushing for its consistent address in legislative discussions. Meanwhile, MP Philippe Gosselin voiced support for the Iranian resistance, drawing parallels with General de Gaulle’s flame of resistance.

Representative Cécile Rilhac expressed pride in supporting the Iranian people’s quest for a democratic republic, separated from religious dominion. However, she acknowledged facing opposition from groups favoring appeasement with the ruling mullahs.

Mrs. Dominique Attias, from the European Lawyers’ Foundation, underscored the undeniable link between the call for abolishing the death penalty and the progression of democracy. She hailed Mrs. Rajavi’s long-standing advocacy against executions and her resistance against the Iranian regime.

The conference also featured remarks from educational figures like Professor Aude de Thuin, who highlighted the broader human rights implications of the situation in Iran. Other distinguished attendees, such as Jean-François Legaret and Jacques Bouthier, praised the MEK’s tenacity and underscored the global importance of the fight for a democratic Iran.

Taher Boumedra, from the JVMI, concluded by emphasizing the urgent need to prosecute Iranian president Ebrahim Raisi for his alleged involvement in past mass executions.

The attendees unanimously echoed the call for the international community to not only condemn the Iranian regime’s human rights violations but to take tangible steps to counteract them. The full statements of Mrs. Rajavi are available on her official website.
