Global Peace Under Grave Threat from Religious Fascism in Iran

Global peace is increasingly jeopardized as analysts warn of the potential for a prolonged war in Gaza to escalate into a regional or even global conflict.

The core of this concern is the religious fascism ruling Iran, identified by political leaders as a primary source of warmongering in the Middle East and beyond. Despite this recognition, there seems to be a concerning trend of turning a blind eye to Iran’s actions, with grave implications for global stability.

This “turning a blind eye” approach by the United States and Europe has significant consequences. By failing to adequately confront the role of Iran, seen as the godfather of fundamentalism and terrorism, these nations inadvertently empower the regime, emboldening it to undertake more provocative actions.

A prime example of this emboldenment is the regime’s use of proxy forces to attack commercial and transit vessels in the Red Sea, an action that intelligence agencies and Western leaders are well aware of but have yet to effectively counter.

Iranian opposition President-elect Maryam Rajavi of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), recently addressed a Conference in Berlin, delivering two critical messages to Western governments and the European Union. First, she stressed the need to resolve the Middle Eastern crisis by addressing its root cause: the religious dictatorship in Iran.

Without tackling this fundamental issue, no lasting solution can be achieved. Secondly, she highlighted the detrimental effects of 40 years of appeasement towards the Iranian regime, which has only contributed to further war and instability in the region.

The Iranian Resistance has been clear in its stance that the only way to end destructive wars, particularly in Gaza, is to target the leadership in Tehran. The West’s repeated mistakes regarding Iran have inadvertently strengthened the mullahs’ regime.

Additionally, the Iranian regime’s resort to foreign wars is a cover for its domestic crises. Supreme leader Ali Khamenei and president Ebrahim Raisi use regional conflicts to suppress internal uprisings. The recent execution of over 230 prisoners in just two months highlights this desperate attempt to control the explosive domestic situation.

Moreover, the regime’s fear of the NCRI and the People’s Mojahedin of Iran (PMOI/MEK) as potent opposition forces has led to aggressive actions abroad, including spying and misinformation campaigns. The recent attack on the NCRI office in Berlin is an example of such actions taken under the guise of appeasement policies.

The policy of negotiations and concessions, especially after the exposure of Iran's illicit nuclear program in 2002, has not contained the regime's nuclear ambitions but rather strengthened it. This is evident as Iran inches closer to obtaining nuclear weapons.

The Iranian resistance emphasizes the need for a firm policy against the regime, advocating for support of the people’s struggle and resistance in Iran to achieve regime change. The alternative proposed is not reliant on foreign powers or existing religious fascism but is a democratic alternative based on Maryam Rajavi’s 10-point plan. This plan advocates for a free and peaceful Iran, devoid of nuclear weapons, and supports a republic founded on the separation of religion and state.
