In a year marked by escalating tensions and confrontations, 2023 emerged as a pivotal period in the ongoing struggle between the Iranian regime and the Iranian Resistance. The National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), representing a major opposition force within Iran, received unprecedented international support, highlighting the regime’s growing recognition as a substantial threat to global peace and security.

This year, the People’s Mojahedin of Iran (PMOI/MEK) expanded its influence despite facing intense suppression, thousands of arrests, and state-sanctioned executions of political prisoners. The resilience of the MEK has been a beacon of hope for many, demonstrating that the movement’s commitment to overthrowing the regime remains unwavering. However, it’s important to note that the scope of this report only touches upon a fraction of the PMOI’s activities, leaving out numerous worldwide demonstrations and exhibitions that further signify the breadth of the resistance.

January 6 marked the third anniversary of the tragic missile attack by the Revolutionary Guards (IRGC) on Ukrainian passenger plane PS752, which resulted in the death of 176 innocent people. Rallies in memory of this tragedy were organized across various cities around the world, reflecting the global reach of the Iranian communities’ outcry against the regime’s actions.

On January 10, the International Committee in Search of Justice (ISJ) held a press conference to introduce “Iran’s Democratic Revolution,” a book that delves into Iran’s current political landscape, highlighting the struggles between the democratic forces and the tyrannical regime. This event underscored the international community’s growing concern and solidarity with the Iranian people’s plight.

A notable act of defiance occurred on January 11 in Pakdasht, Tehran Province, where a group of young girls from the Resistance Units staged a daytime parade, boldly chanting anti-regime slogans. This act of rebellion, alongside similar activities, symbolized the unyielding spirit of the Iranian Resistance.

The ISJ’s conference on January 11, where the book “Iran’s Democratic Revolution” was introduced, brought together politicians and advocates who echoed the need for a decisive stance against the Iranian regime. On January 15-20, the Resistance Units’ daring display of resistance leaders’ images across various cities sent a powerful message of defiance.

The European Parliament’s meeting on January 25, featuring Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, President of the NCRI, and various MEPs, called for a firm policy against the Iranian regime and acknowledged the PMOI’s pivotal role in the uprising.

January 27 saw the “Committee of Arab Islamic Solidarity with the Iranian Resistance” (CAISIR) convene in Brussels, attracting key figures from the Arab world and showing a united front against the Iranian regime’s oppressive policies.

The month ended with a significant meeting in the UK Parliament, where British lawmakers and Iranian activists condemned the regime’s escalating violence against protesters and urged the UK government to recognize the Revolutionary Guards as a terrorist organization, further cementing the international community’s support for the Iranian Resistance.
