AI – Three killed in Iran Protesters Clash With Police

Stop Fundamentalism, 19 April, 2011 – Amnesty International called on the Iranian authorities to investigate clashes between security forces and protesters from the Ahwazi Arab region which has left three people dead according to AI.

Amnesty said this is “another chilling attack on the right to protest.”  Security forces fired live ammunition and used tear gas against protesters killing civilians.

Two hundred protesters were arrested by security forces according to media reports.  Amnesty called for their immediate release as they were “solely exercising their rights to peacefull assembly.”

About thirty of those arrested are said to be women of which five are pregnant.

Amnesty International called for an independent and impartial investigation into the killings.
