Italian MEP: everyone should join for a free Iran

Patrizia Toia, a Member of the European Parliament from Italy, declared that she wanted to “encourage everyone to join the event in Paris of 9th of July.” The event, a mass rally for a Free Iran, will be attended by tens of thousands of supporters of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI) and the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI or MEK).

Ms Toia is one of the more than 270 members of the European Parliament who have signed a statement demanding the EU condition its relationship with Iran on a positive change in human rights there. “This statement,” she said, “gives a strong message to the people of Iran that we in Europe care about democracy in Iran and that we continue to support initiatives for a free Iran.”

The rally supports the ten-point plan of Maryam Rajavi, President-elect of the NCRI.

Ms Toia said that she was “particularly concerned about women” living under the “religious dictatorship” of Iran.

“I would like to use this opportunity to express my solidarity with the people of Iran,” she said.

Paying tribute to  Maryam Rajavi, Ms Toia said that “the people of Iran deserve to have a democratic leader.” Continuing, she said, Mrs Rajavi’s “leadership as a Muslim woman brings hope for a free Iran.”
