Illusion of National Unity: Pezeshkian’s Empty Rhetoric

One of the ongoing crises within Iran's regime is the concept of "national unity." The term, however, is riddled with flaws when examined under the mullahs' rule.

In a government dominated by the absolute authority of an unelected Supreme Leader, the idea of “national unity” becomes hollow. In reality, unity within the regime can only revolve around Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, never the Iranian nation itself.

President Massoud Pezeshkian plays the role of a mere puppet, his speeches and actions serving only to entertain Khamenei. Over the last three months, Pezeshkian has frequently made public appearances and statements that paint an image of someone striving for peace and progress.

For instance, during his trip to the UN General Assembly in New York, he spoke about fostering global and regional peace. Yet, at the same time, Khamenei’s loyalists were signaling a foreign policy driven by military actions aimed at fueling regional conflicts.

Pezeshkian often claims he is working to bring about economic reforms. Yet the reality is quite the opposite, as Khamenei’s inner circle continues to manipulate prices and deepen the country's economic crisis, ignoring the struggles of the Iranian people.

His claims of building relations with countries like Saudi Arabia and Qatar are undercut by Khamenei’s orders to strengthen Iran’s proxies across the region, from Afghanistan to Lebanon, which only serves to create further chaos.

Pezeshkian cannot make decisions regarding the military, the IRGC, or even basic governmental issues like prison management, internet censorship, or economic policies. Even foreign policy decisions are outside his control, as they lie firmly with Khamenei and his Revolutionary Guard.

This contradiction demonstrates that "national unity" is non-existent under the mullahs’ regime. The president holds little actual power.

Ultimately, Pezeshkian’s presidency has revealed itself as a charade. His controversial statements, though designed to present an image of authority, continually expose the regime’s deep-rooted failures. The Iranian people, as evidenced by their boycott of the regime’s sham election, understand that Pezeshkian and Khamenei’s claims of national unity are nothing more than hollow rhetoric meant to distract from their illegitimacy.
