Iranian Youth Dies Under Torture: Calls for International Condemnation Rise

In a disturbing incident in Langarud, northern Iran, a young man has reportedly died under torture and severe beatings by authorities in a local police station.

The Iranian regime has not officially released the victim’s name, but local sources have identified him as Mohammad Mirmousavi, a 36-year-old resident of Lahijan. His death was only acknowledged by the regime after images of his body, showing clear signs of torture, surfaced on social media.

Reports indicate that Mirmousavi was arrested by special unit forces of the county’s police and subsequently subjected to brutal treatment at the Langarud police station, leading to his death. His burial took place on August 27, under tight security measures. The family of Mirmousavi has been pressured by security forces to stay silent about the circumstances surrounding his death, highlighting the regime’s attempt to suppress information.

The death of Mirmousavi has sparked outrage among human rights activists and opposition figures. Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, President-elect of the National Council of Resistance of Iran, condemned the incident, stating that the Iranian regime relies on repression, torture, and executions to maintain its grip on power. She urged human rights defenders worldwide to denounce this atrocity and called for international sanctions against the regime’s leaders to hold them accountable for their actions.

This incident is part of a broader pattern of increasing repression in Iran. In recent months, there has been a significant rise in executions, with over 120 executions reported in the past month alone, including a public hanging in Shahrud on August 26. These actions occur amidst an alarming rise in violence against political prisoners, who are being denied access to medical care and other basic needs, as well as heightened repression in the streets, particularly targeting women and girls over hijab rules.

The death of Mirmousavi and the ongoing crackdown on dissent coincide with the presidency of Massoud Pezeshkian, a figure often labeled as a moderate and reformist. However, the continued state violence and corruption under his leadership suggest that meaningful reform within the Iranian regime remains elusive. The international community is urged to recognize these actions as clear indicators of a regime that cannot be reformed and to take a stand against these ongoing human rights violations.
