The Iranian regime has secretly executed 62-year-old political prisoner Ali Saber Motlaq in Lakan Prison, Rasht, as reported by families of other prisoners in the facility.

Ali Saber, a long-time supporter of the People’s Mojahedin of Iran (PMOI/MEK), faced his untimely death following a history of persecution due to his political beliefs.

Motlaq’s affiliation with PMOI/MEK led to his initial arrest and imprisonment in the 1980s. He was detained once again in 2020 and remained incarcerated until his execution. The Iranian judiciary accused him of murdering a senior regime official in Rasht in 1981, a charge Motlaq consistently denied. In March 2021, protesting against his unjust treatment, he embarked on a month-long hunger strike, despite suffering from severe kidney and liver diseases.

In a concerning revelation, the Security and Counterterrorism Committee of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI) disclosed a “highly confidential” list in April 2022. This list contained names of 2,273 political prisoners deemed “special” by the regime’s judiciary, including Motlaq, identified as “ Ali Saber Motlaq” in row 2084.

Motlaq's execution is part of a disturbing trend in Iran, where over 100 prisoners have been executed in the past month, including political prisoners. This surge in executions represents a broader crackdown by the regime.

Recent victims include Milad Zohrevand, a 21-year-old protester, executed for allegedly killing an IRGC member. Zohrevand was apprehended and severely tortured before being sentenced to death. Additionally, three Baluch prisoners, Mohammad Karim Bazkazayi, Mohammad Barahoui, and Edris Bilrani, were executed after being accused of associating with a dissident group. They were arrested in 2020 and underwent extreme torture in IRGC prisons before being sentenced to death in early 2022.

Another political prisoner, Meisam Chandani (Dehghani), 34, was executed on November 8 in Zahedan Central Prison. Arrested in 2011, Chandani was accused of involvement in the deaths of three agents and sentenced to death on charges of “acting against national security” and “waging war against God through armed action.”

The Iranian Resistance has urgently called on the United Nations, Amnesty International, and other human rights organizations to intervene and halt the Iranian regime’s execution spree. Their plea emphasizes the critical need to save the lives of prisoners, especially political detainees. The Resistance highlights that global silence and inaction only embolden the Iranian regime, known for its egregious human rights violations, to continue its crimes against humanity.
