Among the documents, a confidential letter from Mohammadí Golpayegani, head of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei’s office, to Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, details directives for significant budget increases to various religious institutions and projects, marked for “urgent action.”
The directives include augmenting funds for the Center of Services for Religious Seminaries, allocating 100 billion tomans each to the Endowment Fund for foreign seminary students of the Society of the Companions of the Prophet, and the Balagh Fund for supporting “Native Preachers” abroad. Additionally, the budget for holy shrines is to be increased by 50 billion tomans, alongside a 100% boost in support for Sunni religious schools and clerics.
This maneuver by Khamenei’s office not only underscores the regime’s priorities but also illuminates the systemic exploitation of Iran’s resources for propagating extremist ideologies beyond its borders. The list attached to Golpayegani’s letter enumerates various institutions seeking budget allocations, reflecting a broad network intended to reinforce the regime’s ideological grip, both domestically and internationally.
The revelations spotlight the blurring lines between the state’s branches under authoritarian rule, showcasing the parliament’s compliance in legislating the Supreme Leader’s dictates. Iran’s economy, heavily influenced by entities tied to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and Khamenei’s office, showcases a troubling convergence of military might and economic power, undermining the prospects for a fair and thriving economic landscape.
The regime’s reliance on such mechanisms to sustain its rule has led to egregious human rights violations and a persistent pursuit of nuclear and military advancements at the expense of the Iranian populace. The time is now for decisive action to dismantle the financial and ideological pipelines that sustain Tehran’s clerical dictatorship, safeguarding global peace and security against the regime’s malign activities.
