Serving Connecticut in the Senate for nearly twenty-five years, Lieberman emerged as a principled leader and an indefatigable advocate for the Iranian resistance movement.

Throughout his illustrious political career, Lieberman’s unwavering commitment to the struggle for freedom in Iran positioned him as a staunch ally of the Iranian people and a staunch adversary of the oppressive regime governing the country. He staunchly supported the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI) and the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK), recognizing them as viable alternatives to the repressive Iranian government.

Lieberman’s advocacy transcended mere rhetoric. He ardently championed NCRI President-elect Maryam Rajavi’s 10-point plan for Iran’s future, which envisages a secular, democratic, and non-nuclear republic. He commended Rajavi’s leadership as “brilliant, strong, principled, and patriotic,” acknowledging her instrumental role in effecting change for the Iranian people.

Central to Lieberman’s support for the Iranian resistance was his defense of the rights of PMOI members in Camps Ashraf and Liberty, where they faced relentless attacks by proxies of the Iranian regime in Iraq. Lieberman vocally supported their rights, ensuring their voices resonated globally.

Moreover, Lieberman emerged as a fervent advocate for women’s rights in Iran, recognizing the pivotal role of Iranian women in the fight for freedom and democracy. He stood in solidarity with Iranian women, applauding their courage in confronting oppressive regimes and advocating for their fundamental rights.

Lieberman’s commitment to the Iranian resistance was underlined by his support for the Resistance Units, activists and dissidents within Iran leading protests against the regime. He lauded their bravery and determination in challenging the authoritarian government, emphasizing their crucial role in the ongoing struggle for freedom.

Notably, Lieberman’s support for the Iranian resistance extended beyond rhetoric; he actively worked to raise awareness and garner international support for the cause. His bipartisan approach to foreign policy facilitated collaboration with lawmakers across the aisle, culminating in a coalition of support for the Iranian resistance movement.

While Lieberman’s passing represents a significant loss for the Iranian resistance, his legacy will endure, inspiring and guiding those who share his vision of a free and democratic Iran. As the world mourns his departure, Senator Joseph Lieberman will be remembered as a true champion of freedom for Iran and a beacon of hope for oppressed peoples worldwide.
