This attempt on his life occurred last November in Madrid, orchestrated by a 37-year-old French-Tunisian named Mahrez Ayari, known for his criminal activities and connections to the Mocro Mafia in the Netherlands. Vidal-Quadras is convinced that the Iranian regime, threatened by his vocal support for the Iranian Resistance, financed and orchestrated the attack.
During the interview, Vidal-Quadras detailed the events and his beliefs regarding the motives behind the assassination attempt. He stated unequivocally, “From the very beginning, it was clear to me that this assassination attempt was orchestrated and financed by the Iranian regime. This criminal religious dictatorship, which suppresses its people in Iran, targeted me due to my long-standing support for the Iranian Resistance against this brutal regime. That’s why they tried to kill me.”

He described Ayari as a dangerous individual with a criminal past, linked to the notorious Mocro Mafia. The assailant was pursued and eventually apprehended following the attack. Vidal-Quadras also revealed that he had been aware of the threats against him since October 2022, when the Iranian regime listed its enemies, placing him at the top alongside other prominent Spanish politicians and organizations he was associated with.
When questioned about why the Iranian regime outsourced the assassination to an external criminal organization, Vidal-Quadras explained, “Historically, they executed these killings themselves, using either the Revolutionary Guards or Ministry of Intelligence operatives. However, after a major backlash from the EU and Western democracies following an attack on Iranian Kurdish dissidents at a Berlin restaurant in the early 90s, the regime changed its methods. Now, they contract these murders to mafias in various countries.”
