In a recent parliamentary meeting, MP Bob Blackman, a prominent member of the UK's House of Commons and Executive Secretary of the 1922 Committee, vehemently expressed his concerns regarding Tehran's involvement in supporting terrorism.

The meeting, held on November 28, became a platform for Mr. Blackman to call for decisive actions against the Iranian regime.

Mr. Blackman, highlighted the necessity of this measure by referencing the attempted bombing at a National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI) gathering in Paris back in 2018. Mr. Blackman stated, “The reality is that… the regime in Iran [gave] express permission, if not being ordered, by the regime in Iran to carry out the attack without question.”

In addition to proscribing the IRGC, Mr. Blackman suggested several other stringent measures including closing the Iranian embassy in the UK, withdrawing British diplomats from Iran, and imposing robust sanctions. He emphasized the importance of these actions, asserting, “We have to carry out the other recommendations that are contained in the document, namely closing the Iranian embassy here, withdrawing our diplomats from Iran, and imposing the strongest sanctions we possibly can against the IRGC and the Iranian leadership.”

Mr. Blackman specifically urged for the proscription of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as a terrorist organization.

Mr. Blackman also spoke about the broader implications of Iran’s actions in the Middle East, particularly their impact on the peace process. He lamented the attack on Israel by Hamas, which he attributed to the influence of Iran, noting, “This was the decision-making that implemented that attack on Israeli civilians.” He stressed that this incident had severely setback the peace process in the Middle East.

The MP strongly endorsed the democratic alternative represented by the NCRI and its President-elect Mrs. Maryam Rajavi. He urged the UK to lead in severing diplomatic ties with Iran, underscoring the threat posed by the Iranian regime not just in the Middle East but also in Europe. “Now, we’ve got to remember that the regime in Tehran doesn’t limit itself to the Middle East, is targeting Europe in the form of state terrorism,” Mr. Blackman stated, highlighting the global reach of Iran’s alleged terrorist activities.

The speech concluded with a call for UK leadership in adopting a firm stance against Iran. Mr. Blackman appealed for recognition and support of the NCRI, emphasizing the need for a cooperative approach with the Iranian people and their representatives to counter Tehran’s regime. “The sooner the UK recognizes and endorses this Iranian popular alternative, the more effective will be our policy responses to counter the regime’s warmongering and terrorism,” he concluded.
