In a significant gathering in Washington D.C., the Office of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI) brought together a diverse group of political figures, former US officials, and advocates to commemorate the onset of spring and the Iranian New Year, symbolizing a renewal of commitment towards a free and democratic Iran.

Among the notable attendees was former United States Secretary of Homeland Security, Governor Tom Ridge, who, along with his wife, Michelle, expressed steadfast support for the NCRI and the People’s Mojahedin of Iran (PMOI/MEK). The event saw a convergence of representatives from various embassies, political advisors, and journalists, all united in their support for the Iranian resistance movement.

Dr. Soufi Saeedi, a member of the NCRI and the event’s host, articulated a vision of hope and optimism for Iran, underscoring the significance of the New Year as a beacon for future freedom and democracy in the country. This sentiment was echoed by Ambassador Robert Joseph, former Deputy Secretary of State, who highlighted the urgent threat posed by the Iranian regime’s nuclear ambitions.

Ambassador Joseph, along with Ambassador DeTrani, former Senior Advisor to the Director of National Intelligence, and Linda Chavez, former Director of the White House Office of Public Liaison, underscored the critical importance of international support for the NCRI’s Ten-Point Plan, championed by NCRI President-elect Mrs. Maryam Rajavi. Their speeches painted a picture of a stark choice between oppression and democracy, urging global action to usher in a new era of freedom for Iran.

The gathering also provided a platform for reflection on the sacrifices made by members of the Iranian Resistance and their families, as highlighted by Ambassador Lincoln Bloomfield, former US Assistant Secretary of State for Political-Military Affairs, and Colonel Thomas Cantwell, former US commander in charge of protecting Camp Ashraf in Iraq. Their accounts shed light on the enduring struggle and the resilience of the Iranian people in the face of adversity.

Ambassador Joseph's call for decisive action against the regime was reinforced by a policy focus on isolating the Iranian government while bolstering the democratic opposition.

Soona Samsami, the NCRI’s Representative in the United States, celebrated the past year’s achievements despite significant challenges, emphasizing the growing international support for the cause of freedom in Iran. The event concluded with a message of solidarity from a delegation of American university students, who praised the Iranian youth’s courage in pursuing a democratic republic.

The Washington D.C. gathering served as a commemoration of the Iranian New Year and a powerful testament to the global support for the Iranian resistance movement, offering hope for a future marked by freedom and democracy in Iran.
