Urgent Call to Save Lives: Escalating Executions and Torture in Iranian Prisons

In a distressing wave of human rights violations, the Iranian regime, under the leadership of Ali Khamenei, has recently executed several prisoners and intensified the torture of political detainees.

Urgent action is needed to address this crisis and protect the lives of those at immediate risk. On January 17, four prisoners, including Karamat Nazarkhani, Iman Shabani, Bahman Fathollahzadeh, and another inmate, were hanged in Qezelhessar Prison. Tragically, this followed the execution of four individuals in different locations on January 16 and the hanging of weightlifting athlete Yaghoub Alimoradi on January 15.

The regime’s escalating executions, coupled with a disturbing lack of transparency, demand immediate attention. Simultaneously, political prisoners face intensified pressure and torture. Hossein Salehi, a 2022 uprising participant, suffers from a severe nervous disease due to brutal treatment in Sheiban Ahvaz Prison. Despite a doctor’s prescription, he has been denied medical treatment, exacerbating his condition.

Hamed Ghareh Oghlani, a political prisoner in Torbat Jam Prison, is on a hunger strike since January 12, protesting the denial of medical leave and transfer to a hospital. Instead of addressing his health concerns, prison guards transferred him to solitary confinement on January 16, raising serious concerns about his well-being.

Mehdi Maarabi, a 32-year-old Arab compatriot serving a 30-year sentence in Torbat Jam Prison, suffers from a heart condition. Despite a recent heart attack, he was sent to a medical center outside the prison but returned without completing treatment. The Iranian Resistance highlights the challenges faced by Maarabi’s family in Khuzestan due to his exile and emphasizes the urgent need for his transfer to Ahvaz prisons.

As the situation worsens, Ali Khamenei's regime is employing executions and warmongering to divert attention from internal crises.

The international community and human rights defenders are urged to take immediate action to save the lives of prisoners facing imminent execution. Additionally, the Iranian Resistance calls for an international truth-finding mission to visit Iranian prisons, with a specific focus on meeting with political prisoners. Time is of the essence in addressing this urgent and deeply troubling situation.
