Iran constitutional watchdog approves uranium enrichment bill TEHRAN (Reuters) – Iran’s constitutional watchdog on Saturday approved a bill to resume uranium enrichment and end snap U.N. checks of its nuclear sites if Tehran is referred to the U.N. Security Council for possible sanctions.

Iran’s parliament created the law last month, when Tehran feared governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) might refer the case to the Security Council in a bid to compel Tehran to cooperate with the U.N. nuclear watchdog.

Speaking at a gathering of the IRGC’s Navy commanders on Sunday, Major General Yahya Rahim Safavi said, “The impoverished people’s Bassij force was formed on the orders of the Imam [Ruhollah Khomeini] following the siege of the American spies’ den [U.S. embassy in Tehran] on November 4, 1979 and the arrest of the spies of that country to fight any possible threat from the enemies”.

MOSCOW, Dec. 2 – Russia has agreed to sell antiaircraft missiles to Iran as part of a $1 billion arms deal that would significantly increase Moscow’s military cooperation with Tehran, Russian news media reported Friday.

The announcement of the sale coincided with a visit to Moscow by R. Nicholas Burns, the American under secretary of state for political affairs, who said in a radio interview that the United States had asked the Russian Foreign Ministry to explain the deal, reported by the newspaper Vedomosti and the Interfax news agency.

GAZIPUR, Bangladesh (AP) – A bomb thrown by an Islamic militant disguised as a tea vendor exploded outside a government building Thursday in a town near the Bangladeshi capital, killing one person and wounding at least 29, authorities said.

The militant, who was hurt and captured after the blast, threw a tea container holding the bomb after police threatened to shoot him when he refused to be searched, said Gazipur police chief Atiqul Islam.
