The first Chancellor of the University of Tehran following the 1979 revolution and a former Iranian political prisoner, Dr. Mohammad Maleki, has called on the young people of Iran to “rise up and protest” against the mullahs’ regime in Iran according to an article by the National Council of Resistance of Iran.
Dr. Maleki, aged 83, is a human rights activist that has been arrested by the regime several times and spent time in prison. He is also banned from leaving the country.
His plea, sent via video message from his home, was followed by a statement of support for Omid Kokabee, an Iranian physicist and political prisoner who underwent surgery last week to remove his cancerous right kidney.
Despite repeatedly mentioning his various health problems, the mullahs’ regime time and time again ignored Mr. Kokabee during the five years he had been imprisoned. He was allegedly imprisoned for refusing to work on military projects in Iran.
Dr. Maleki said in his statement that it is particularly important for young people to rise up and fight against the regime. He said it is the young people that can “break the silence” surrounding the criminal actions. He said, young people should put their fear to one side and protest, and they must tell the “oppressive rulers of this nation that they will not allow them to act in this inhumane and un-Islamic way and violate the human rights of the wise people and scientists, political opponents, protesters and writers of this nation”.
He highlighted that many students in Iran have been executed and it is still continuing to happen. He said that students and professors in particular should “protest against these despicable actions of the regime and prevent these criminal acts from continuing”.
In November last year he publicly condemned the brutal rocket attack on Camp Liberty in Iraq. The attack, which happened on 29th October 2015, killed 24 people and left dozens of wounded and was aimed at members of the main Iranian opposition group People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI or MEK).
