On 10th February, the president-elect of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, addressed a gathering named “Iran Uprising, Iranian Youths for Regime Change”. The event also marked the anniversary of the 1979 anti-monarchic revolution.
Ms. Rajavi saluted the people that overthrew the Shah’s dictatorship and those that are now rising up, almost four decades later, to overthrow the mullahs’ dictatorship. Back then, the people wanted freedom and democracy, but Khomeini “hijacked its leadership and drenched it in blood”. She commemorated all of the people that have bravely stood up for what they believe in and remembered back to the seventies when political prisoners filled the prisons of the Shah’s regime. The prisoners, including her brother, were tortured, and the people became more and more angry at the unjust situation.
She explained that the people were able to pressure the leadership and the political prisoners were finally freed. Mrs. Rajavi recalls the moment Massoud Rajavi said: “One can never keep a nation forever in chains.”
She also describes the disappointment of the people when Khomeini had the Velayat-e Faqih Constitution approved. Mrs. Rajavi said that the people did not rise up to have such a corrupt, brutal and cruel regime in power. Furthermore, she added: “The young souls massacred in 1988 were mostly those who had led the 1979 Revolution to victory.”
The two Supreme Leaders since then, Khomeini and Khamenei, have a record that cannot be described in a positive way. She said: “Khomeini and Khamenei’s record can be summarized in five phrases: slaughter, plunder, destruction, export of fundamentalism and terrorism under the name of revolution, and misogyny – the most prominent feature of the regime. The entire history of Velayat-e Faqih is summarized in these five phrases.”
Speaking about the uprising that started at the end of last year, Mrs. Rajavi said that it has come about because the people of Iran will never be happy with the regime and because they will never give up on their hope for freedom. She said: “So the big news is that the religious fundamentalism which was born in Iran in 1979, died in the 2018 uprisings.”
Mrs. Rajavi’s speech was full of positivity and encouragement, especially for the young people. She reinforced the hope that regime change is imminent and that their efforts are will not be lost. “Young protesters seeking regime change, brave young women and men of Iran, you set in motion the overthrow of the mullahs in your uprisings in late December and early January. It was an auspicious beginning.
Khamenei and his Revolutionary Guard Corps had blocked all ways forward, but your determination was able to break through. Therefore, you should have faith in the continuation of the uprisings. This movement is the product of your suffering and the sacrifices of your comrades. This movement is made from the bleeding hearts of tens of millions of Iranians. This movement is not going to stop, because the circumstances that created it persist. Just as you, the courageous youth of Iran, are going to continue it by being present in every scene.”
