On Saturday 3rd December 2005, Friends of Humanity co-sponsored a rally in Sydney, Australia in solidarity with Iranian students.The rally opened with a detailed report on recent student activity in response to the re-pressive actions of Iranian regime, culminating in a law to promulgate Islamic fundamen-talism in the universities. The report described how the regime began its attack on the universities in May 1981, as well as how it dealt with July 1999 student uprising.
The participants also condemned the nomination of Mullah Amid Zanjani as the president of Tehran University, and they stressed that his nomination would not deter the students from their struggle for the freedom and democracy in Iran.
