Advanced Web Filtering by Iranian Regime to Block Information and News Exchange

In order to prevent the Iranian public specially the youth from accessing the flow of information and news through the internet, the Iranian regime is planning to upgrade their filtering technology to a new unified advance filtering system.

Khosravi, Iran’s communications director stated that, “According to Iran’s Computer Crimes Law, filtering has been defined.”  He continued that this unified filtering system uses what he called a “gateway.”  A special committee will designate the websites that will be filtered which consists of some members of mullahs’ parliament, judiciary and other oppressive forces.

Selling filtering and internet control devices to the Iranian regime has been prohibited by the United States as it has stated that it will sanction companies providing such technologies to Iranian regime.

Major western companies have since announced that they will no longer provide internet filtering technologies to Iranian government.

Under these circumstances, Iran’s ability to establish and control such filtering system is questionable as this country is incapable of developing the technology on its own.
