5.5 earthquake shakes Sirch in Kerman Province of Iran

Stop Fundamentalism – A 5.5 magnitude earthquake shock Sirch city in the Iranian Kerman province last night at 23:18 local time, reported Iran’s Tehran University Geophysics Institute.

The Director of Iran’s Red Crescent told reporters last night that emergency unites were dispatched to Sirch immediately.

The earthquake has been reported to be a long shaker causing residents in the city to panic. Reports indicate that all mobile phone lines stopped working as a result of the earthquake and land line communications were also disrupted.

A major earthquake struck the city of Bam in Kerman province back in December 2003 measuring 6.8 on the Richter scale.  The quack devastated the historic city destroying many valuable monuments.  Over 30,000 were reported dead as the result with another 30,000 injured.  Bam city is yet to recover from the consequences of 2003 earthquake.

Iranian media reports show no casualties as the result of the shaker and only minor damages to buildings are reported by the officials in the city.
