Iran – Earthquake Shakes Kerman City

Stop Fundamentalism – An earthquake of magnitude 5 on the Richter scale shock the central Kerman city last night, report Iranian news agencies from the Seismological center in Kerman. That is while hours earlier another milder earthquake, 3.5 magnitude, was registered a few kilometers away from the city.

 

The tremor hit the city at 23:16 late Monday night bring the residents out from their homes into the streets.

 

No reports of damages or casualties have been released yet.

Iran is on a number of major fault lines and witnesses frequent earthquakes.  But house construction methods in the country are not up to standards required for such environment and earthquakes usually cause a lot of damages and cost many lives.

Bam in southern Kerman was hit by an earthquake in December 2003 killing thousands of people and ruining province’s treasured historic sites.
