Stop Fundamentalism – Iran’s Internet Police has arrested a man allegedly for selling satellite connection to the internet. The authorities say they traced the man through his website where he sold accounts to users who wanted to be able to access the internet via satellite.
Iranians have limited access to the internet through available services and many website and special social networking sites and sites belonging to the opposition are filtered and blocked.
Selling password to accounts that would deliver access to free information and also providing and selling proxy services or VPN pass through for ordinary users are prohibited by the Islamic Republic.
Iranian authorities have put substantial measure in place including blocking and filtering many website following the 2009 uprising. The protests that erupted following the rigged presidential elections, came to be known as the ‘Twitter Revolution’ due to a key role social networks such as Twitter and Facebook played in helping protesters communicate and organize.
