Amid the intensifying crisis in the Middle East that has led to the loss of countless innocent lives, the clerical regime in Iran continues its aggressive posturing.

The regime is capitalizing on the situation, keenly advertising their role in the ongoing turmoil. Their primary audience is the domestic populace that is growing increasingly wary of the government’s antagonistic aspirations.

The Iranian society’s growing dissent against the regime’s aggressive regional policies, particularly the diversion of resources to support militias throughout the Middle East, hasn’t deterred the Supreme Leader. Instead, he seeks to bolster his security forces, many of whom are dispirited. The intent is to maintain an aura of power on the world stage, leading state officials to shift their rhetoric post-October 7, risking potential global repercussions.

In a recent sermon, Ahmad Alamolhoda, closely affiliated with the Supreme Leader, diverted attention from the Israel-Palestine conflict, portraying it as a broader battle between Islam and disbelievers. Mohammad Javad Haj Ali Akbari, another influential cleric, in his address, highlighted the perceived divine retribution behind the events following October 7. He inferred a collaborated effort by the Israeli military and regional governments, culminating in the Al-Aqsa operation.

Meanwhile, in Mashhad, a representative emphasized the ongoing quest for the ‘Ultimate Revenge’. He hinted at the grander plan of dismantling the Israeli regime, while also warning potential defectors within the Iranian ranks. These sentiments were broadcasted by the local Astan-e-Quds TV, highlighting those benefiting from the revolution but allegedly undermining Islam, with a stern cry, “Death to the hypocrites!”

Such provocative rhetoric, now making rounds in foreign diplomatic circles, reminds many of past malevolent regimes that wreaked havoc beyond their borders. The Iranian regime’s strategy echoes a familiar pattern: projecting might and maintaining a guise of indifference to skirt the aftermath of its deplorable actions.

For decades, the regime’s survival isn’t a testament to its genuine strength, but rather the global community’s hesitance to intervene. The world’s passive stance evokes the bitter lessons of World War II. To ensure history doesn’t repeat itself and to prevent another tragic episode, the international community must decisively reject any form of appeasement. A firm and unyielding policy towards Iran’s belligerence is now more imperative than ever.
