National Review Online, Oct 30 (by Michael Ledeen) — “We’ve got a lot of issues with Iran,” President Bush told a news conference last week. “The first is whether or not they will help this young democracy succeed,” he said, referring to Iraq. 

 

The heart sinks. Can anyone — let alone the president — possibly believe that the mullahs might help Iraq succeed? The only “success” they are interested in is the humiliation of America and the domination of Iraq.

 

2,820 U.S. Military Deaths since Iraq war began

Associated Press, November 3, 2006 – As of Thursday, Nov. 2, 2006, at least 2,820 members of the U.S. military have died since the beginning of the Iraq war in March 2003, according to an Associated Press count. The figure includes seven military civilians. At least 2,263 died as a result of hostile action, according to the military’s numbers.

Iran – Couple reported hanged in May, were actually stoned to death

Stop Fundamentalism, November 3, 2006 – According to Rooz daily, a state-run publication in Iran, “A man and a woman identified as Abbass H. and Mahboubeh M. were stoned to death in the northern city of Mashhad.

“Mahboubeh and Abbass were treated as if they were dead already.”  The daily stated, “According to Islamic rituals, they were cleaned and wrapped in white shrouds by the undertaker while still alive. Being a female, Mahboubeh was buried alive up to her shoulders, and Abbass was buried in the ground, up to his waist. Then, they were stoned to a gradual death.” d, in Iran during May 2006.”

Sony – Japanese PS3 shipment will not meet target date

Only 80,000 units to make November 11th launch.

Sony has missed its intended shipment figures for the Japanese launch of the PlayStation 3.

The amount of units available on November 11th has fallen to 80,000, one-fifth less than the previously promised 100,000 consoles, according to a report in the Nikkei Keizai Shimbun.

Oracle Jumping into Open-Source Market

Oct. 26–Oracle, a longtime giant of proprietary software, announced Wednesday a major new move to provide open-source software for big business. But to make that happen, it might steamroll right through leading Linux open-source vendor Red Hat on its way.

The business software giant from Redwood Shores will soon offer its own version of Red Hat’s Linux open-source operating system, Chief Executive Larry Ellison said in a keynote speech at the company’s Oracle OpenWorld conference Wednesday in San Francisco.
