Woman ex-hawker wants to represent poor in Bahrain’s parliament

Stop Fundamentalism, November 5 – A 40 year old woman, Aminah Abbas, is running to enter the Bahrain’s parliament to represent the poor.

 

“All candidates speak of combating poverty and improving living standards, but for me, I’m talking of personal experience,” says Abbas, mother of five and one of 18 women candidates in the kingdom’s November 25 parliamentary polls.

 

Iran – Saddam deserves to die

Defense Minister Abdul-Qader Al Obeidi issued the order cancelling all military leaves and ordering vacationing soldiers back to duty on Friday.

World’s Fish Supply Running Out

Friday, November 3, 2006 – An international group of ecologists and economists warned yesterday that the world will run out of seafood by 2048 if steep declines in marine species continue at current rates, based on a four-year study of catch data and the effects of fisheries collapses.

The paper, published in the journal Science, concludes that overfishing, pollution and other environmental factors are wiping out important species around the globe, hampering the ocean’s ability to produce seafood, filter nutrients and resist the spread of disease.
