The Iraqi government held an auction in Jordan’s capital city of Amman for three contracts to setup mobile phone networks in Iraq, Thursday August 16.
Three companies will be announced as winners of a contract each.
Five major players were chosen to participate in the auction. They were Atheer, Orascom, Asiacell, Korek and Turkcell, according to Iraqi government spokesman.
"Iraqi citizens may possess as much as 45% of the three companies’ shares, and the Iraqi government would receive 18% of the companies’ annual profits," government spokesman, al-Dabagh said in a statement.
