Brussels, EFE (Translated from Spanish) – The leader of the National Council of Resistance of Iran, Maryam Rajavi, called on the European Union to protect 3000 Iranian refugees in Camp Liberty yesterday.  The opposition leader warned about the imminent danger of an attack on the camp following the February 9 rocket attack that led to 8 deaths and about one hundred injuries among the residents.

“Iraq rejects developing a plan for provisioning security,” Rajavi said and urged Catherine Ashton, EU’s High Representative, to transfer the residents to member countries in the European Union or return them to Camp Ashraf.

The event by the Iranian resistance was organized by a group of European Parliament members, “Friends of a Free Iran Intergroup”, that enjoys support of about 200 European lawmakers including executive Vice President of the European Parliament, Alejo Vidal-Quadras from People’s party.

“There is no doubt that the Iranian regime was behind the February 9 attack,” and referring to Mahmoud Ahmadinejad administration added, “Another attack is not unlikely.”

This Spanish Vice President of the European Union called for ending of the mandate of Special Representative of the United Nations to Iraq, Martin Kobler, and alleged that he is “partial” with regards to the Iranian refugees’ subject matter in the country.

“Kobler is an obstacle in the way of reaching a solution for the problem and he is a disgrace to the United Nations,” said Vice President Vidal-Quadras, adding “I hope that someday he will pay for his behavior and also for victims of his failure in protecting Camp Liberty.”

Rajavi and members of the European Parliament criticized Kobler’s report to the United Nations Security Council on March 21.

“Kobler supported a limited transfer of the residents following the recent attack, legitimizing the continuation of the current situation as nothing has ever happened,” said Vidal-Quadras.
