Nigeria’s Federal Government has accused the leader of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN), Sheikh Ibrahim Zakzaky, of working with Iran to establish an Islamic State, reported the Nigeria-based Daily Trust newspaper on August 30, 2019.

The position of the Federal Government is included in the counter-affidavit in response to a motion by the IMN challenging the July 16 order of a Federal High Court proscribing the group, and requesting the proscription order. The request hinged on the provisions of section 1 sub section 2 (a-b) and section 2 sub section 1 (a-c) of the Terrorism Prevention Amendment Act of 2013, and accused the group of acts of terrorism.
