Belgian Investigation On 2018 Villepinte Failed Attack

This frustration led to the failed assassination attempt of the NCRI’s president-elect, Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, as well as hundreds of supporters of the (MEK  Iran / PMOI), at the Villepinte (France) rally and foreign guests.

 2018 Villepinte

On June 30, 2018, an elaborate bomb should have exploded at the National Council of Resistance of Iran’s (NCRI) and the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI / MEK Iran), meeting that took place with a coalition of movements opposed to the despotism in Tehran. Fortunately, this didn’t happen and the perpetrators have been held accountable for their actions. The type of bomb that was to be used was based on acetone peroxide (or TATP) and remotely controlled. Fortunately, the attack was foiled.

The trial of the perpetrators will not take place until the end of November in Antwerp. Belgian justice has completed its investigation and said “the project for the attack was conceived on behalf of Iran, and under its leadership; it was not a personal initiative of Assadi. ” However, 49- year old Assadi is the key figure in this case. He was representing Iran as a diplomat in Vienna. His role, according to State Security, is mainly to act on behalf of “Department 312”, part of the Ministry of Intelligence and Security (MOIS) which according to the European Union lists is classified as a terrorist agency.

It is sad in this day and age, that people like Mr. Assadi can only gain a reputation for introducing the manufacture of explosives to be used against Iranian opponents. His presence was noted in 2017 in Villepinte, Auvers-Sur-Oise-the headquarters of the NCRI.

What makes the whole situation worse was that in 2018 authorities in Tehran decided to say they were not involved in the failed attack.

So far Assadolah Assadi has refused to cooperate with the Belgian justice system but has threatened reprisals. On March 9, 2019, he told the director of Beveren prison that if he was convicted, “armed groups” were ready to act against police officers, witnesses, or (PMOI / MEK Iran), supporters.

The couple who were living near Antwerp who was arrested had in their vehicle 500 grams of TATP, three cell phones, and 35,000 euros. Amir Saadouni, one of those arrested, said he had been working with Assadi since 2007. However, what was a surprise was when he said they believed they were transporting materials for a fireworks display. He is not the only one arrested as there is also Mehrad Arefani, who was arrested in Villepinte and then extradited to Belgium.

For some unknown reason, France wants to downplay these events. In reality, it is a complete mystery that any government would not want to seek justice for terrorists. ‘’It is convinced that the Franco-Iranian researcher, Fariba Adelkhah, arrested in June 2019 in Iran and sentenced, in May 2020, to five years in prison for “propaganda” and undermining national security, paid for the arrest of Assadi. Tehran apparently hoped to trade her for this one. The anthropologist was temporarily released on Saturday (October 3) and remains in Iran under the control by means of an electronic bracelet.’’

This frustration led to the failed assassination attempt of the NCRI’s president-elect, Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, as well as hundreds of supporters of the (MEK  Iran / PMOI), at the Villepinte (France) rally and foreign guests.
